He was my closest companion for 15 1/2 years. George contributed to many breeding programs in America, and was very influential as a sire of performance Belgians. He was an enthusiastic performance dog himself, with obedience and herding titles. Although ready for trial-level herding and open obedience, a tendon injury prevented further competition. Luckily, he shared his working ability with his offspring and, at age 13, added a "Performance Breeder's Achievement Reward" (P-BAR) to his name. For a stud dog to earn a P-BAR, 100 total points must be accumulated in herding and/or agility titles from offspring and grandoffspring. This was a great honor for George and for me as a breeder! In the next generation, George daughter Ava also earned a P-BAR. Visit George's P-BAR page to see the list of contributors. George is also just a few points away from a Conformation BAR for offspring with breed championships. George's pedigree combines the finest Belgian, French and British bloodlines. His sire was 1995 top Tervuren stud in Britain and his dam was the 2nd top winning Tervuren bitch in Britain of all time. Elegant and correct, George was classically European in type with a striking outline, beautiful but moderate head, and good, balanced movement. He had four champion littermates , two of them record holders, and he himself was a triple champion -- American, Canadian and UKC. He won multiple group placements in both the US and Canada, and he was awarded Best in Specialty Show at the UBSDA 1993 National at only 15 months of age. But George was best known for his wonderful temperament. He was calm, easy-going and biddable. He passed the ATTS temperament test for courage and stability, and he was temperament-certified by Therapy Dogs International. He served for two years as a working therapy dog with autistic children. George lived a long and healthy life and was vigorous in his last year. He traveled many places with my family and we had some great adventures, from backpacking in the Sierras to swimming alongside me to and from shore off a boat in order to visit a bird research station, hanging out at the scientists hut while I went to the rookery. When I moved east, George enjoyed the beach life and became a loving guardian to my daughter Mulan who arrived from China. When George was 12, we moved to Manhattan and he thoroughly enjoyed his senior years as a city dog. Every tree, every bush, every fire hydrant in NYC belonged to George ;-). In the summers, we went to the Adirondacks and shared wonderful times with friends and fur family. I have so many memories with my dear George! Heart dog and best friend, he will live on through his wonderful offspring, and in my heart always.
