THE ABTC 2009 NATIONAL SPECIALTY

Specialty activities began with the HERDING TRIAL where BPIS Can. CH Montage Surfs Up CDX, TDX, PT, NA, NAJ (VCD1) "Malibu" came from Syracuse to complete her PT title and earn the coveted ABTC VERSATILITY AWARD !!! A "Versatile" Belgian Tervuren must earn a title in four out of the five AKC activities -- conformation, obedience, tracking, herding, or agility. Including her Can. CH, Malibu actually has titles in all five categories. She is the first Montage dog to achieve this very special award. Huge congratulations to Maura Hogan, Boo's versatility partner.

Next came two days of AGILITY TRIALS, where Landmark New York Correspondent OA, OAJ "Dream" and owner/trainer/handler Cathy Parisi rocked the house by taking THREE FIRST PLACES. Her 2nd leg in Exc. A Standard and two legs in Open Jumpers to title. One off course in Exc. A the second day kept her from being 4 for 4, what an outstanding job for a baby dog who isn't even 2 years old yet and has only been out trialing for a couple of months now. Dream is a Henson daughter bred by Darlene Hernandez. Congratulations to Cathy and Darlene!

The RALLY-O TRIAL featured Gangster Kid BasqueLaine-Montage Mafioso CGC, TDI Vinnie and Patty Naimo, from New Hampshire. Vinnie and Patty made their Rally debut in Novice and did a fantastic job, coming away with their first Q, a score of 196, and SECOND PLACE! This was a really big accomplishment and co-breeder Kelley Hoffman and I are both thrilled. Vinnie has the makings of a top competition obedience dog. He is drivey, highly focused, and very showy. Patty is having a great time with him!

THE BEAUTY PAGEANT. In the DOG CLASSES, Landmark You've Got Mail "Hampton" showed in American Bred Dogs handled by his breeder Darlene Hernandez. Although he didn't place, he had a grand time leaping and tugging inbetween showing off his perfect stack. It was great to see him having such a good time and looking so beautiful. He will be 2 years old the end of June. Hampton lives on Long Island. His owner Jeanette Friscia "lent" him for the specialty week to Darlene who flew in doglless from California.

In the BITCH CLASSES, Montage Speed Trap "Chloe" and owner Bonnie Skelton came from MA, entering the large Open Bitches class. Chloe and Bonnie had to lead the way as they were first in line. Bonnie did a great job of handling, moving Chloe around the ring at the perfect speed (no pun intended) to showcase her correct, balanced movement, tail wagging all the way. She won 3rd place out of 11 bitches most of which were more mature and larger in size. Chloe is always a pleasure to be around. She greets everyone including judges with such sweetness, and she is a happy, confident dog. I was proud to see her out there representing Montage.

Unfortunately, I was only able to bring half of Am & Can. CH LandmarkMontage Puppeteer "Henson" to the specialty. The other half was left behind in NYC, decorating the nests of the city bird population. I did go in the BOB ring against my better judgement as Henson loves to show, but he did not care for the uneven clumpy grass in the ring which threw off his movement. Guess we will have to start practicing more on grass.

Donna Wilson and Genesis-BasqueLaine Avenger Emma P (George x Jo) came all the way from Florida to visit with friends and hang out. I am trying to talk Donna into showing Emma as she is beautiful, although I know its hard to find shows and points in So. FL They did enter the Terv Two Miler and took a 2nd place!
